Inside the Build: Renovating the Wirtshaus at 1501 LaSalle

Inside the Build

From Hall to Wirtshaus

Haus Kartheiser Wirtshaus is taking shape inside the hall at 1501 LaSalle Street in Ottawa. The renovation work is about more than fresh finishes — it is about creating a warmer, dinner-focused room that can support German comfort food, private events, and memorable nights in the hall.

The goal is to keep the room approachable while giving the restaurant its own identity: deeper wood tones, stronger Wirtshaus character, better seating flow, and a space that can move between regular dinner service and booked events.

What the Room Is — and What It Can Become

These visual comparisons help show the direction: current Ottawa hall conditions on one side, and the warmer Wirtshaus atmosphere being built toward on the other.

What Is Changing

A Different Approach to the Room

The renovation is about giving the Wirtshaus a room that feels intentional — a place where dinner service, private events, and community nights can all feel like they belong.

The design direction leans into dark emerald, black, gold, cream, warmer wood, hand-built tables, stronger room identity, and a more polished guest experience without losing the approachable hall character.

Warmer Finish Deeper tones, wood, gold accents, and stronger visual character.
Better Flow Tables and seating shaped around dinner service and events.
Food Identity A room that supports chef-led German comfort plates.
